Time to Show Our Strength – OPS Board Meeting, Nov. 7th

Good Afternoon,

I know there has been a lot of media attention around some of our middle schools. I want to clarify a few things. As President of the Omaha Education Association, I am your advocate. I am the only authorized spokesperson for the Omaha Education Association. An increasing number of members have been contacting me with concerns regarding student behavior. This is not just a middle school problem, nor is not a new issue. What is new is the number and intensity level of these problems. It is unacceptable for students to intentionally put their hands on adults. It is unacceptable that some students repeatedly cause disruptions so extreme that the teacher cannot teach and students cannot learn. We know, the deeper causes of the problem behavior are complex. We know the solution is not a “one and done”. While all schools may not experience this problem to this degree, we support our fellow educators who are experiencing these problems, sometimes daily. This call to action is going to all members. Members, we must speak for the necessity of classroom teachers to be involved in educational decisions. We must show up and demonstrate that we are united and serious. It is time to show our strength. We have 2,700+ members. I am calling on every one of them to show up, WEAR RED! Monday, November 7th, @ 6:30pm at the TAC Board Room. The meeting is posted on the district website. I will speak for OEA during public comments.

I am your voice, Come stand with me,

Bridget Donovan, President

Omaha Education Association
