OPS Board, Don’t Sell Our Kids to the Lowest Bidder!

Last school year, 2015 -2016, our School Board Contact Teams talked to every single school board member about our concerns regarding student behavior. Our TOP SOLUTION was to reinstate a “Wilson Alternative type” school, not just for middle school but for elementary as well. I myself, along with Marlene Wehrbein, our NSEA Organizing Specialist, discussed this with Mark Evans at our own SBCT meeting.
OEA has been advocating for an effective alternative middle school since the district closed Wilson Alternative School. It is disingenuous of the district to imply that that this is a new idea. Omaha Education Association Believes in Our Teachers. It’s a shame that OPS did not propose an alternate middle school. OPS proposed hiring a company that runs charter schools in a number of states like Arizona.
Our students and teachers deserve the best OPS has to offer. OEA believes we can do better than a fast food model school ran out of strip mall. If President Lou Ann Goding truly thinks the Omaha Education Association opposes an alternative middle school, she really hasn’t been listening. If you care about our students, tell OPS School board “Don’t Sell Out Our Kids!” Attend the January 9th OPS School Board Meeting @ 6:30 PM.
