Options for Parent/Teacher Conferences

As a part of the new master agreement a Professional Committee (ProCom) was formed to address issues that impact teachers district wide. This committee is comprised of both OPS district and building level administrators as well as 12 OEA members (5 from Elementary, 3 from Middle, 3 High School and the President of OEA).

 

The first topic of conversation for ProCom as stated in the new negotiated agreement, was the schedule for Parent Teacher Conferences. During negotiations we agreed to develop common district wide schedule options for Parent Teacher Conferences for all schools. Each principal would then in collaboration with their building OEA Rep (page 27 & 28 of the agreement), select one of the schedules identified below by ProCom for their Parent Teacher Conferences.

 

The intent was interpreted differently on both sides, when looking at the language. In multiple discussions with the district, we have taken what the ProCom agreed to in reference of days but adjusted the time, time to better serve the families and teachers of OPS.

 

While this may not be the ideal option for each school, it is our hope that we can collect data on parent participation and further address it at the negotiation table. This is a one-year contract, so all suggestions are welcomed by the OEA team.

 

ALL schools should agree on one of the options for each level and the Principal and AR should collaboratively agree on the option that works best for their school. In the event, you have already identified the option prior to the most recent options being sent out, I would ask that you collaborate on the current options. As a courtesy, let your Principal know that Thursday morning has been adjusted to be used as Teacher Planning with NO meetings to be held during that time.

 

Parent-Teacher conferences are a critical component of our work with children. We encourage you to accommodate parents and families to ensure they can meet with teachers.

 

Elementary

Conferences on Tuesday Evening 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Teacher Planning Thursday Morning (no meetings held)

Conferences on Thursday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Friday – Non Duty Day

 

Choice #2      

Conference on Wednesday Evening 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Teacher Planning Thursday Morning (no meetings held)

Conferences on Thursday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Friday – Non Duty Day

 

Secondary –

 

Choice #1      

Teacher Planning Thursday Morning (no meetings held)

Conferences on Thursday from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Friday – ½ Day Teacher Planning (AM) – ½ Day Non Duty Day (PM)

 

Choice #2     

Conference on Wednesday Evening 3:30 to 7:00

Teacher Planning Thursday Morning (no meetings held)

Conferences on Thursday from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm
